Singing 2nd Avenue Subway Worker Serenades Miffed Residents

A worker at the seemingly interminable Second Avenue subway project is using the songs of Sinatra to mitigate the ear-piercing construction noise that has rattled residents for months.

Each day during his 30-minute break, Gary Russo sets up his karaoke kit and serenades the beleaguered residents near the $4 billion construction site, reports The New York Post.

The crooner stands in front of a sign that reads, “Forget all the noise, traffic and the impact of the 2nd Ave. Subway. Enjoy the music.”

So far, Russo’s invigorating performances appear to be changing the mood, even among the most frequent complainers. One Upper East Side resident who stumbled upon the show told the Post an elderly man grabbed a young woman and the strangers began dancing in the street.

Another construction worker, Paul Rodriguez, told the Post one woman who always searches for something to complain about paused when she saw Russo on the street one day.

“It was the first time I saw her smile,” he said.
