Rail Condition Prompts LIRR Delays

The MTA said it was cross-honoring fares for customers whose trains may be diverted or delayed.

A rail condition east of Penn Station created significant delays Tuesday morning for commuters who travel on the LIRR, authorities said.

Customers faced cancellations, delays and some trains being diverted to Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn and Hunterspoint Avenue in Queens because of the rail condition, authorities said. The delays were caused by some sort of issue in one of the tunnels that carries trains under the East River.

By about 8:30 a.m., most lines were running with minor delays.
