Mom Leaves Kids in Car During Shoplifting Spree: Police

The 31-year-old mom left her 10-year-old daughter and toddler son in her car for two and a half hours, police say

A Long Island woman has been charged with shoplifting $270 from a mall while her two children waited in the car.

Newsday reports that 31-year-old Coshonda Vanderhall was arraigned Wednesday on charges of third-degree robbery and endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded not guilty and was ordered jailed on $30,000 bail.

Police say Vanderhall shoplifted from a J.C. Penney store at a mall in Massapequa on Tuesday and then punched a security officer who tried to stop her.

The security guard was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say Vanderhall left her 10-year-old daughter and 15-month-old son alone in her car for two and a half hours during her spree.

Vanderhall, of Mastic, is due back in court Friday.
