Children, Ages 12 and 16, Among 4 Hurt When Gunman Opens Fire in Jersey City

Two children, ages 12 and 16, were among four people hurt when gunfire erupted in Jersey City late Sunday, authorities said.

Police say all of the victims are expected to survive the wounds suffered in the shooting on Wilkinson Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. 

The 12-year-old boy was shot in the back, while the 16-year-old was wounded in his back and stomach, police said Monday. One 18-year-old victim was shot in the forearm and another 18-year-old suffered a shoulder wound. 

Witnesses say several kids took off running after sounds of gunfire were mixed with fireworks. The street was blocked off for hours as authorities investigated.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
