A man on a tiny scooter shot and wounded a woman as she got out of a cab on Manhattan's Lower East Side early Sunday, law enforcement sources told News 4 New York.

The 26-year-old woman was getting out of a yellow taxi on Rivington Street just before 5 a.m. Sunday with four friends when she heard several shots ring out, according to the sources.

The quartet walked a short distance, sources said, and the woman realized that she was bleeding from the shoulder.

She then ran into a Comfort Inn, and a worker there called 911. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is in stable condition.

Authorities later identified the gunman as a man riding an electric scooter; he rode off after firing the weapon. Footage captured from around the scene shows a man thought to be the gunman riding a miniature scooter on the sidewalk.

Sources said that the woman appears to be an innocent bystander.

Bodega clerk Nur Hossain told News 4 that he dove for cover inside his store when he heard the gunfire. Later, residents said they found two bullet holses in a nearby gate.

"I got scared," he said. "I didn't know what it was. The third (gunshot) I felt like someone was shooting and I ran into the store."

Anyone with information about the gunman should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
