Police are looking for a would-be cellphone thief who lost his shirt when the Upper East Side subway rider he tried to rob grabbed him as he tried to flee with his property, officials said.
The suspect grabbed the man's phone as the No. 6 train pulled into the E. 77th Street and Lexington Avenue station on July 3 and tried to run away, but the victim latched onto the thief and a struggle ensued.
The suspect wiggled out of his shirt in an effort to escape and ran off the train when the doors opened, leaving the cell phone behind.
Police released surveillance video of the shirtless robber leaving the subway station (above). Anyone who recognizes him is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800)-577-TIPS.
