Sharpton Pays Tribute to Slain NYPD Officer

Handwritten cards from schoolchildren, candles and flowers have accumulated outside the East Harlem police station house where Officer Randolph Holder had started each workday.

The tributes to the slain officer grew Saturday with the addition of a wreath placed at the site by the Rev. Al Sharpton.

"We who fight bad policing, we unapologetically support good police," Sharpton said. "His loss is a loss to all of us. Should also be a call for this city to unite around what we do with violent offenders."

Members of Sharpton's National Action Network gathered at the station to pray for the officer, his family and an end to gun violence.

Holder was killed Tuesday night while chasing a suspect in East Harlem.

Tyrone Howard, a career criminal, has been charged in Holder's death.

Holder's funeral is scheduled next week and is expected to draw thousands of law enforcement officers from across the county.
