Jury Deliberates in NJ Baby's Bridge Death

Prosecutors say Abdur-Raheem abducted his daughter from her maternal grandmother's East Orange apartment in February 2010, then fled with the baby and later threw or dropped her into the Raritan River

Jury deliberations have begun in the murder trial of a man accused of throwing his infant daughter off a New Jersey bridge.

Shamsidden Abdur-Raheem is charged in the death of 3-month-old Zara Malani-Lin Abdur-Raheem.

Prosecutors say Abdur-Raheem abducted his daughter from her maternal grandmother's East Orange apartment in February 2010, then fled with the baby and later threw or dropped her into the Raritan River. The girl's mother had sole custody and had left the baby in her mother's care while she sought a restraining order against Abdur-Raheem.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports that jurors deliberated for about 2 ½ hours on Tuesday in New Brunswick. They will resume deliberations on Wednesday.
