Search for Brooklyn Beauty Called Off

Authorities have spent the last three months searching for a dark-haired beauty who vanished after a night out in Manhattan, but now they're calling it off.

The search for Laura Garza was called off Saturday afternoon. Nothing was found. New York state police and 71 volunteers from local fire departments from Orange and Sullivan counties conducted the search.

The search area included Exits 115 to 112 on Route 17, which encompassed Bloomberg and Wurtsboro in New York.

The state is not planning any further searches in the area.

The 25-year-old Brooklyn woman was last seen December 3 with convicted sex offender Michael Mele in Newburgh, about 60 miles north of New York City. Police say Mele is a person of interest but hasn't been charged in Garza's disappearance.
