Bodies of Missing Anglers Found on Long Island

The bodies of two anglers were found Sunday after the men were reported missing off the coast of Long Island.

A man walking his dog in Shoreham discovered the bodies of Juan Lojas, 18, and Luis Lala, 20, around 6 a.m. Sunday, according to Suffolk County police.

The Coast Guard had been searching for the men before their bodies washed up on the North Shore of Long Island a short distance away from where they had gone into the water Saturday afternoon while fishing in Wading River.

Another man had also slipped into the water but had been able to pull himself onto land.

Although Suffolk County authorities have not officially confirmed that the bodies are those of the missing men, the family of one of the victims said they were the missing anglers.

Authorities said that conditions from Hermine, the post-tropical cyclone swirling in the Atlantic more than 300 mph southeast of the tri-state, most likely did not contribute to the drownings.
