Queens School Evacuated Due to High Carbon Monoxide Reading

A Queens school was evacuated Tuesday morning after a high carbon monoxide reading was reported in the building's basement, officials say.

Students were cleared out of P.S. 295 in Queens Village at about 9:15 a.m. after the reading was recorded. According to Con Edison the reading came from the building's basement and electrical room and may have been the result of a smoking manhole nearby.

Students in pre-school through fifth grade were relocated to P.S. 33 on 222nd Street. Students in grades six through eight were taken to I.S. 109 on 92nd Avenue.

There are about 550 students and 100 faculty members at the school.

It's not clear when students will be able to return to the building.
