One person was killed and several were injured in a collision between a mini-bus and a tractor-trailer on a rural road on eastern Long Island Wednesday.
A dispatcher for Maryhaven, a program for people with special needs, said eight people were on the bus, including two staffers.
Five of the injured were brought to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead; one was a fatality, officials said.
The conditions of the others is still unknown.
The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on Sound Avenue. Police Chief David Hegermiller says the bus and tractor-trailer may have sideswiped each other.
A helicopter took some victims from the scene, a rural section of Long Island about 90 miles from Manhattan.
The identity or condition of the tractor-trailer driver was not immediately known.
