Grand Central Parkway Reopens After School Bus Fire

The Grand Central Parkway has reopened in Queens after a school bus fire shut down the westbound side at the Kew Gardens interchange during the evening rush.

Social media showed flames engulfing the bus and bursting out from the windows shortly before 5 p.m. Thick smoke could be seen billowing into the air from miles away.

The fire was under control a short time later, and Instagram video showed the charred remains of the burned-out bus as firefighters hosed down the vehicle.

No passengers were on the bus, authorities say. It's not clear if anyone else is hurt.

Witness Kyle Velasquez captured the accident on Instagram and said the bus hit a motorcyclist, whose bike got caught under the bus. Velasquez told NBC 4 New York the motorcylist was fine and being treated by emergency responders at the scene.
