Rutgers Student Hospitalized After Assault, Robbery on Campus Sidewalk

Police are searching for two suspects who assaulted and robbed a student on Rutgers University's New Brunswick campus.

Campus police say the student was on the sidewalk in front of Ford Hall at the time of the attack Sunday night.

The suspects fled on foot. Authorities said no weapons were displayed during the assault.

Police say the student is being treated at a hospital and is expected to recover.

University officials sent out a campus-wide email late Sunday to inform students of the assault and remind them to take precautoins, especially when walking alone at night.

Students were surprised such an attack could happen outside a campus office building.

"It's scary that it can happen on campus so close to where students are living," Rutgers student Stephanie Wakefield said. "There should be more security, especially at night when many of the crimes do happen."

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Rutgers police at (848) 932-8025.
