Road Closures to Know for Obama's Rutgers Speech

President Barack Obama called for Rutgers students to bring positive change in the world in the school’s first commencement speech by a sitting president.

The speech and the graduation ceremony began at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at Rutgers' High Point Solutions Stadium. Officials issued travel guidelines for motorists ahead of events.

The Landing Lane bridge is closed to pedestrians and vehicles for the entire day, the New Brunswick Police Department said in a release.

Sutphen Road on the Busch Campus is also closed to all traffic except vehicles related to the setup of the commencement, according to NJ.com

"Travelers should expect delays on local streets and on Route 18 in the vicinity of New Brunswick and Piscataway," Rutgers officials said in a traffic advisory on the school’s site. "Roadways including College Avenue, George Street, River Road, Hoes Lane, Metlars Lane and the John Lynch and Landing Lane bridges all will experience heavy traffic."

Because of the increased traffic, the Township of Piscataway has warned the public to look out for additional road closures on local roadways for Sunday.
