Rutgers Football Player Leonte Carroo Pleads Not Guilty to Domestic Violence Attack

Rutgers receiver Leonte Carroo has pleaded not guilty to a domestic violence-related assault charge after authorities say he slammed a woman onto concrete after a football game.

NJ.com reports that Piscataway Municipal Court records show Carroo's lawyer entered the plea via fax and waived his client's first court appearance. Carroo's next court date is scheduled for October, and he remains on indefinite suspension from the football team.

Authorities have said Carroo, a senior and team captain, was "known to date" the victim. He allegedly picked up the woman and slammed her down onto concrete, injuring her left hip, her palms, her left elbow and the left side of her head after the team's game Saturday, a 37-34 loss to Washington State at High Point Solutions Stadium. Carroo allegedly attacked the woman outside the team's training and administrative building.

Carroo, the team's leading receiver and an expected pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, remains free on $1,000 bail.

Carroo's arrest is the latest stain on a program that has seen six other players kicked off the team this month after being arrested.
