New Jersey Teen Shot in Head While Playing Russian Roulette, Witness Tells Police

The 15-year-old friend the victim was allegedly playing with faces aggravated assault and other charges

A 17-year-old New Jersey boy was shot in the head during what a witness told police was a game of Russian roulette he had been playing with a friend, authorities said.

Police said the boy was shot early Sunday on Danforth Avenue in Jersey City. He was listed in stable condition at the hospital later that day. 

A teenage witness told police the victim and a 15-year-old boy were playing Russian Roulette in the bathroom of an apartment when the gun went off, according to NJ.com. She told authorities the younger boy said he had found the weapon in an empty lot. 

The 15-year-old boy was allegedly holding the gun when it fired, and fled when it fired, reports NJ.com. The website said the 15-year-old boy later surrendered to police with his legal guardian.

He was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence, among other offenses.
