Rockland County Lawmaker Receives ISIS-Style Threat

A Rockland County sheriff says he has contacted federal authorities to investigate a threatening photo of a beheading sent to an Orthodox Jewish lawmaker.

Sheriff Louis Falco says county legislator Aron Wieder received a crudely altered photo showing Wieder's head on top of the body of a victim of a recent beheading by Islamic State extremists.

The photo is labeled with some Arabic writing and Wieder's name, although his first name was misspelled as Aaron.

Wieder says he opened the envelope Monday during a legislative session in New City and took it directly to Falco, who was there.

The envelope had a return address in Monsey, New York.

Falco says the Joint Terrorism Task Force, which includes the FBI, is investigating.

In a statement Wieder called the threat "despicable and disconcerting."

"The message of violence and intimidation that was sent has been met with a sentiment of resolve to apprehend the individual or group responsible for the threat, and a sense of purpose to continue to serve my constituents in office as I have for years.
