Recently Restored $12 Million Ceiling at New York Public Library Damaged by Electrician

After a two-year, $12 million restoration, the New York Public Library's ceiling was accidentally damaged by an electrician - forcing an evacuation of the iconic Rose Reading Room.

A library spokesman says an electrician lost his footing and accidentally punctured the ceiling Tuesday, causing two small pieces of plaster to fall to the floor. The New York Post reports the ceiling was inspected and the room was reopened to the public 30 minutes later.

No injuries were reported.

The restoration was recently finished after a similar incident in 2014, when a piece of the ceiling came loose and fell to the floor.
