Ragin' Rudy Takes Swings at Obama, NY GOP

Giuliani on Obama: "The American people made a mistake"

America screwed up!  So says former New York mayor and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani about the election of Barack Obama. He spoke with particular candor this morning at the Crains Business Breakfast Forum.

Giuliani said "the American people made a mistake" not unlike the elections of Jimmy Carter and Lyndon Johnson.

When asked about the recent political stalemate in Albany, Giuliani came down hard against his own party. He defended Democratic Governor Paterson, saying  the Governor has little power to bring reform to Albany. He also conceded that the New York Republican party "at some point stopped developing" and admitted the GOP deserves blame for the Senate coup and stalemate.

And don't invite Rudy and Mayor Bloomberg to the same party any time soon. He criticized the mayor's decision to raise the sales tax, calling it "a really bad tax. He said "I would never raise the sales tax."

And with New Yorkers preparing to commemorate the eight anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, Giuliani blasted developers' plans for the Ground Zero site. He said it should have been a beautiful memorial and is "a bad location for a big new office building."
