Cops Probe Half a Dozen Attacks on Latinos in Past Month in NJ Town

Police believe Latinos are being targeted for violence in a northern New Jersey city.

Englewood police say there have been six incidents in the past month in which Latinos were assaulted.

Police Chief Arthur O'Keefe tells The Record newspaper they were not isolated incidents. Officers are investigating whether there's a potential link to gang initiations.

The most recent attacks were Tuesday. A restaurant worker walking home was able to fight off four attackers by the Depot Square playground. Later that night, a man leaving a bakery was accosted and robbed by six people.

Police are assuring victims that they will not check their immigration status.
