15-Year-Old Boy Arrested in 2014 Slaying of Brooklyn Rabbi

Police say a 15-year-old boy has been arrested in Miami in connection with the slaying of a New York rabbi while he was visiting family in Florida last year.

Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman Jennifer Capote said Wednesday that homicide detectives had arrested the teenager in connection with the death of 60-year-old Rabbi Joseph Raksin. The teen was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a deadly firearm.

Raksin was fatally shot Aug. 9, 2014, as he walked to a temple in Miami, where he had been visiting his two daughters, grandchildren and son-in-law. Hehad a wife in Brooklyn and was a father of six.

At the time of the shooting, authorities said the slaying appeared to have been a robbery gone bad, but they had not ruled out a hate crime.
