Queens Woman Charged With Animal Neglect

A Queens woman has been arrested by ASPCA officers for "severe neglect" of a dog that had to euthanized over its ill health.

Ana Herra is accused of failing to care for the female mixed breed dog named Julie, estimated to have been between 12 and 15 years old.

On February 12, 2011, ASPCA agents answered an anonymous complaint of a matted dog at a residence in Corona, Queens. There, agents found the dog weak, unable to stand and severely matted.

Julie was moved to the ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital after Herra relinquished control of her to the ASPCA. Just a few hours after her admission, Julie was humanely euthanized because of her compromised health.

It is unclear if Herra has an attorney.
