A former sixth-grade English teacher has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl.

Daniel Reilly was also sentenced on Monday to 10 years of probation. The 36-year-old will be required to register as a sex offender.

The Queens district attorney says Reilly had sex with the former student at his Forest Hills home in April.

The family contacted school authorities after the victim's sister saw sexually explicit text messages on her phone.

Reilly taught at Intermediate School 237 in Flushing.
