Queens School Aide Arrested for Allegedly Manhandling Student

A school aide in Queens is facing charges for allegedly manhandling a student in the hallway Tuesday.

The aide at IS 59 in Springfield Gardens allegedly placed his arms across a 12-year-old boy's chest and dragged him from the cafeteria to an office upstairs, police say.

Gilbert Jones was arrested Wednesday evening for reckless endangerment and criminal obstruction of breathing, according to police. Attorney information for Jones wasn't immediately available.

The Department of Education said it was looking into a "recent allegation of corporal punishment" and that it was cooperating with the police investigation.

An uncle of a girl at the school said the incident is now raising more questions and concerns.

"It makes you wonder what they do in the school when you're not around," said Earl Watts. "You've gotta be aware of everything."
