A jury awarded a Queens nurse a record $15 million after finding that her hospital bosses did not take proper action as a doctor harassed and abused female coworkers over a span of eight years.
"Everybody knew it was an atmosphere of dirty jokes in the hallways and at the nursing station, [but] no one did anything about it. It was tolerated," nurse Janet Bianco, told the Daily News.
Bianco, 55, said in the suit that Dr. Matthew Miller tormented her over several years before sexually assaulting her at Flushing Hospital in 2001. Bianco left the hospital in 2005.
Bianco repeatedly complained to supervisors about Miller's bad behavior, according to the suit. The harassment incidents escalated from the time Bianco joined the hospital in 1993 until a pair of violent attacks in 2001.
The Queens Supreme Court jury ordered the hospital and Miller to each pay half of the $15 million judgment.
