Aretha a No-Show for Her Own Party

Organizers of a benefit concert for members of the military say the show featuring Aretha Franklin is expected to go on Sunday night.

That's even though the Queen of Soul didn't make it to a ceremony on Sunday afternoon where she was supposed to get an award.

Franklin was supposed to be in New York City to receive the Torch of Freedom Award, presented by the Soldiers', Sailors', Marines', Coast Guard and Airmen's Club of New York. The club says it offers "service to those who have served their country."

Franklin didn't make it to Times Square. Messages left with her publicist seeking comment were not immediately returned.

NewYork.com, one of the hosts of the concert, released a statement Sunday afternoon saying it was "extremely proud to be putting on a concert benefiting our troops with Aretha Franklin."
