More Than $1.8M Raised for Orlando Shooting Victims

More than 44,000 people donated in just one day.

Donors raised more than $1.8 million for victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando in just one day, with the total rising sharply by the hour.

The GoFundMe page was set up by the human rights group Equality Florida, which said it would work with the National Center for Victims of Crime to manage donations.

As of 1:30 p.m. ET Monday more than 44,000 donors contributed, including $30,000 from corporate LGBT group Executive Pride and $25,000 from cell phone company Cricket Wireless.

GoFundMe officials tweeted that the campaign crossed the $1 million mark faster than any other fundraiser in the site's history.

By Monday afternoon the total was growing at a rate of more than $150,000 an hour.

A separate campaign for Brooklyn's Enrique Rios blew past its $4,000 goal, raising almost $11,000 in half a day.
