Protesters March Again for Akai Gurley

Nearly 200 protesters marched Saturday outside the Louis H. Pink Houses in Brooklyn where Akai Gurley was killed by a police officer.

"This right here is a building, but it's a gravesite," one protester told NBC 4 New York.

Gurley's family led the march, holding his daughter as they walked.

At one point, protesters eventually spilled into the street and blocked traffic on Linden Boulevard. They headed over to the 75th police precinct station house a mile away..

They demanded that officer Peter Liang, who shot Gurley in a dimly lit stair well, be fired and prosecuted.

"They just keep getting away with it," complained protester Frenda Brown. "All of our kids are being killed and nobody is being accountable for it."

Mayor Bill de Blasio had asked demonstrators to postpone any protests until after the funerals of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, but protesters here said their demonstration was unrelated to the killings of the two officers last week.

Gurley and his girlfriend were walking down the stairs to get out of the Louis H. Pink Houses on Nov. 20 when Liang and his partner were conducting a floor-by-floor sweep of the building. The 28-year-old was shot when he stepped out onto a landing.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has described the shooting as a tragic accident.
