Ex-Priest Who Won NY Lottery Charged With Sex Crime

Officials say an ex-priest who won more than $1 million in the New York Lottery 30 years ago has been charged with a sex crime.

Sixty-eight-year-old Joseph Faraone was charged Friday with a felony criminal sexual act in Putnam County.

The Journal News reports the charges suggest Faraone is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a person younger than 15 years old or with a person incapable of consent due to a mental disability or incapacity.

Officials say the charges do not appear to be associated with Faraone's time as a priest. He left the priesthood sometime after 2006.

Faraone won $1.17 million in 1985 while he was a priest at the Church of St. Patrick in Yorktown.

It's unclear if Faraone has a lawyer who could comment.
