A pregnant woman was shot in the stomach in the lobby of a Yonkers, N.Y. apartment building Thursday night and her baby was delivered by emergency cesarean section, police said.
The woman, who was about nine months along, was shot at about 9 p.m. in the lobby of 541 Bronx River Road.
She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.
The baby and mother were both in stable condition, police said Friday.
There was no immediate word on whether authorities believe the mother was targeted.
Neighbors said the woman moved into the building a few months ago and lived alone. Janet Rager lives next door and said she didn't know the woman well but she was always pleasant when they passed one another.
"Everyone's in shock," said Rager. "Nothing like that has ever happened here before."

The building's superintendent said it is monitored by surveillance cameras around the clock. Police are now going through the footage.
