Pregnant Mom Arrested in Coaxed Theft of Louis Vuitton Wallet From Target Customer's Shopping Cart: Police

Police say they've arrested a pregnant New Jersey mother accused of having her 4-year-old child steal a woman's wallet from a shopping cart at a Target store earlier this month.

The 24-year-old New Brunswick woman was captured carrying out the theft with her child at the Route 1 store in South Brunswick on Jan. 10, police said. Police reviewed surveillance video after a customer called to report her purse had been stolen from her shopping cart, and saw a child around the age of 5 pluck it from the cart and hand it to her mother.

Authorities said they believed the mother bumped the victim's cart away as the victim looked at greeting cards; the little girl then walked up to the victim's cart and grabbed the Louis Vuitton wallet, leaving behind two DVDs.

The child then walked toward her mother, who took the wallet, and the mother then walked to another woman, the video shows. Both women then walked out of the store with two children behind them, police said the video shows. They left their shopping carts in the aisle.

Police said the victim's credit cards were used at nearby Quaker Bridge Mall a short time after the theft. About $40 were in the wallet, which was valued at more than $1,000.

Nygeria Dixon, who is eight months pregnant, is being held on $120,000 bail at Middlesex County Jail, police said. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.

Police are still looking for the second woman with whom the mother was seen leaving the store.
