Lingering showers could dampen the festivities on Mother's Day, but the sun may also make an appearance ahead of a big warm-up this week, Storm Team 4 says.
In a dramatic improvement from a soaker of a rainstorm on Saturday, Mother's Day was expected to be cloudy with occasional peeks of the sun in the morning. Scattered showers are expected to pass through the region in the afternoon.
It remains cool with a high of 66, but warmer days are ahead. The temps are forecast to rise into the 70s on Tuesday and climb into the 80s by the end of the week. Thursday is expected to feel more like summer, with the temperature rising near 90 degrees.
A soaking on Saturday was less severe than anticipated. By the end of the weekend, New York City and areas around the coast could get 2 inches or more of rain, Storm Team 4 said. Areas to the north and west can expect 1 to 2 inches.
While the rain may have washed out some weekend plans, it didn't cause the severe flash flooding that buried cars and streets under water across a wide swath of the tri-state area on May 5, Storm Team 4 says.
