Powered Parachute Accident on Long Island Hurts 1

A 50-year-old man broke both his legs Sunday in an ultralight aircraft accident on Long Island, authorities said.

The accident happened at Enterprise Park at Calverton in Riverhead, the site of a runway used by skydivers and others, police said.

The FAA described the incident as a powered parachute accident. Because the ultralight aircraft involved wasn't a registered aircraft and the operator wasn't required to have a certificate, the agency won't be investigating further, a spokeswoman said.

The man was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.
