Power Outage Leaves Thousands of Brooklynites in the Dark, Mucks Up Subway Service

More than 6,000 Consolidated Edison customers in one Brooklyn neighborhood lost power Monday afternoon because of a cable failure that also crippled subway service in the area, authorities say.

The utility says the cable failure knocked out power to customers in Dyker Heights around 12:45 p.m.; it had said it was expected to be restored quickly.

According to the MTA, that same outage forced it to shut down N train service between Stillwell Avenue and 59th Street and D train service south of Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center. Some northbound N trains and southbound N and D trains were being rerouted for a time. Service resumed with delays shortly before 3 p.m. The MTA said no trains were stuck as a result of the power loss.
