Shotgun Used in Murder-Suicide in Tiny Upscale New York Town: State Troopers

Steven Dym killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life at their Pound Ridge home, investigators have said

A wealthy executive used a shotgun to kill his wife and teenage daughter in their estate-like home in Westchester County before taking his own life, state troopers said Monday.

The medical examiner's office ruled the deaths of 56-year-old Steven Dym, 50-year-old Loretta Dym and their 18-year-old daughter Caroline a case of murder-suicide, confirming investigators' initial beliefs from the scene Friday.

A housecleaner discovered the bodies that morning in the Dyms' 4,600-square-foot home on Fox Hill Road in Pound Ridge, according to police.

Steven Dym was CEO of a property management company. Loretta Dym was a vice president at Club Quarters Hotels, according to The Journal News

Dym's mother attacked her husband Lawrence Dym with a hatchet handle in the same home in 1992, The Journal News reported.

The Dyms had donated money to Gov. Cuomo. He thanked the couple for supporting him in a 2003 book.

Neighbors told News 4 New York that the house was up for sale and that no one knew the family too well.

Peter Lusk Jr., who said he's lived in the neighborhood since 1998, was on a bike ride when he saw helicopters over the area.

"That's horrible," Lusk said. "It's weird to happen around here, you don't really hear about that."

Pound Ridge is on the eastern part of Westchester County. It's bordered by Bedford to the west and Stamford, Connecticut, to the south. It's a town of less than 30 square miles with sprawling, multimillion-dollar homes for sale.
