Man Drives Into Officer Writing Him Ticket for Parking in No-Standing Zone at LaGuardia: Police

A 24-year-old Bronx man was arrested for allegedly driving his van into a Port Authority police officer writing him a ticket for parking in a no-standing zone at LaGuardia Airport, authorities say.

Erick Sanchez parked his 2014 Dodge Caravan in the middle of the road at Terminal B at the airport around 12:30 Monday and a Port Authority cop went to write him a ticket, police said.

As the officer was writing the ticket, Sanchez allegedly put his van in drive, turned the wheel toward the officer and drove into the cop, injuring the officer's leg, police said.

Sanchez was stopped by other officers after he drove off. Those officers noticed a 6-year-old child in the backseat of the van with no seat belt or child restraint device and arrested Sanchez.

A computer check showed he had an active warrant from the Bronx, though the charge wasn't clear.

Sanchez was charged with obstructing government administration and second-degree assault. His vehicle was impounded. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
