Police Shoot Suspected Armed Carjacker in Brooklyn

A carjacking suspect pointed a weapon at police in Bushwick, according to sources

Police shot a suspected carjacker in Brooklyn Friday after he pointed a gun at officers, police said.

Officers had tracked the suspect after responding to reports of a man breaking car windows in the area. The suspect allegedly forced his way into a car and tried to drive away.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said he was later pulled over by other officers on Weirfeld Street and Irving Avenue in Bushwick.

Kelly said that the suspect then got out of the car with a gun in his hand.

He began to run, and police pursued him. When he turned with his weapon, Kelly said, one of the officers fired, striking him in the head.

The suspect's silver gun was recovered on the scene, sources said. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and is in critical condition.
