Authorities released a photo of Billy James Jr., whom they are calling a person of interest in the case

Police are seeking to question a 17-year-old in connection with a shooting that wounded a 9-year-old girl in the Bronx Friday night.

Authorities released a photo of Billy James Jr., whom they are calling a person of interest in the case.

According to police, a person between 15 and 20 years old riding a BMX-style bicycle fired several rounds, hitting the girl who was playing in front of a building on Bailey Avenue in Kingsbridge at around 9:45 p.m.

The girl, who was struck in the torso, is not believed to have been the intended target. She is recovering at Jacobi Medical Center.

Authorities initially released surveillance images of a person on a bicycle believed to be a suspect. The person was identified and questioned, and police say he is no longer a suspect.

Police said a $22,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the shooting.
