    NBC 4 New York

A 35-year-old police recruit was hit and dragged by a garbage truck that then fled the scene in Queens early Monday, authorities say.

Police say the woman was hit near 28th Avenue and Ulmer Street in College Point around 6 a.m. She was hospitalized in stable condition.

It wasn't clear how far she was dragged, nor was it known if the sanitation truck was owned by the city or privately operated.

    The investigation is ongoing.
