NYPD Detective Hit by Car, Seriously Injured on Staten Island: Officials

An NYPD detective is in serious condition after being struck by a minivan on Staten Island on Sunday night, according to information provided by multiple officials and witnesses.

The on-duty detective was hit as she was returning to her vehicle at Richmond and Lander avenues in the Bulls Head neighborhood shortly before 9 p.m.

Witnesses said she was investigating another crime, possibly a stabbing from Saturday night, when a minivan sped through and hit her. She was bleeding and unresponsive after being hit, according to the witnesses.

One witnesses said she saw a lot of blood.

"She wasn’t moving," Nicole Lugo said. "She was hit very hard. That lady was going very quick."

Fire officials said the detective was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in serious condition. She had trauma to her head, but her injuries are non-life-threatening, according to police.

The 31-year-old driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and police said no arrests or charges have been made. Witnesses said she seemed shaken up.
