Police: NY Man Set Fire, Threatened Cops

Police say a Long Island man threatened officers with a knife after setting fire to a home and barricading himself inside.

The 45-year-old is charged with arson and criminal contempt after the incident around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Main Street in Islip.

Police say he threatened to harm himself and the officers as they tried coaxing him from the burning home.

Officers eventually pulled him to safety.

Police say officers Arthur DeBono, Todd Jackson and Sgt. Andrew Manfredonia were treated for smoke inhalation.

The arrested man is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Information on his lawyer wasn't immediately available.
