Authorities say police officers shot and killed two pit bulls that attacked and bit a man and a child at a New Jersey playground.

Camden County spokesman Dan Keashen says the attack occurred at a Camden playground at about 7 p.m. Friday.

Keashen says arriving officers tried to "snare" the dogs, and when that didn't work they tried to use a stun gun on the animals, but that also failed.

The officers then shot and killed the dogs. The man and child, whose names weren't released, were treated at the scene for bite wounds.

Police say they know who owned the dogs.
