Officer Shoots, Kills Man During Domestic Violence Call in Connecticut: State Police

Police responding to a 911 call from a child shot and killed a man who allegedly had a weapon Tuesday morning, then found his wife and children inside their Connecticut home with injuries ranging from stab wounds to blunt force trauma, authorities say.

Officers responded to the home on Mountain Laurel Road and Brookside Drive in Fairfield at about 6 a.m. after a girl called 911 to report the disturbance.

When they got to the home, they found the man, Chris Andrews, outside with a weapon and his 15-year-old holding a bat, police say. Officers told the man to drop the weapon and shot him when he refused.

The man's wife, Kathleen Andrews, and their children were in the home at the time of the shooting; authorities say they had sustained injuries ranging from cuts to blunt force trauma.

The man was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His wife was also taken there and is in critical condition.

Their children, a 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl and the 15-year-old boy, were transported to Saint Vincent's Medical Center in Fairfield.

It's not clear whether the Chris Andrews was the primary aggressor in the domestic violence before police arrived.

Neighbors and family friends say the violence was a shock. Authorities say that there had been no prior calls from that address.

"They were the nicest couple of all the couples I knew," said family friend Steve Bogan. "It's very, very shocking."

The officer who shot and killed the man was taken to the hospital for observation. The officer has been with the department for 10 years.

State police were called in to investigate the shooting.
