New Jersey Teens Flee Cops in Stolen BMW, Crash into Police Cruiser: Video

Three teenagers from Newark and East Orange have been charged with stealing a luxury car and crashing it into a Jersey City police officer's cruiser in a wild chase captured on surveillance video.

Surveillance footage from Herbert Place showed the stolen black BMW speeding down Herbert Place at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, followed closely after.

The driver of the stolen car backs up and hits the Jersey City police cruiser behind him, the video shows. The 18-year-old driver and his two passengers -- 15 and 17 years old -- then get out of the car with their hands up and lie down on the sidewalk.

One Jersey City police officer hurt his back and neck in the crash, but he's expected to recover.

The BMW, which is thought to have been stolen from a home in Morris Plains on Saturday, doesn't appear to have been damaged in the chase. One police vehicle was damaged during the chase.

The BMW driver, 18-year-old Khalyl Harley of Newark, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, eluding, burglary and other charges. The teen passengers were charged with receiving stolen property.

It's not clear if Harley had an attorney.

Several streets in the India Square section of Jersey City were closed for several hours after the chase, but the area reopened to traffic at about 11 a.m.
