Planned Parenthood Clinic Coming to Queens

Planned Parenthood is expanding in New York City with a clinic in Queens.

The women's health center is building a $9 million facility in Long Island City.

The group's chief executive tells The New York Times that about 5,400 of its 50,000 patients live in Queens.

Joan Malin says the new center will eventually handle about 17,500 patients annually.

The center, scheduled to open next year, will be  Planned Parenthood's first clinic in the borough.

The organization has one center in each of the other four boroughs. Malin says the four centers have seen a 26 percent increase in patient visits since 2008.

Planned Parenthood provides contraception and breast cancer screenings and abortion counseling and procedures.
