Pin the Blame on the Boss at NYC Park

Tompkins Square Park to host Unemployment Olympics

A New York park that was a gathering spot for the jobless for decades will play host on Tuesday to an event organizers are calling the Unemployment Olympics.

The Olympiad of the down-and-out at Tompkins Square Park will feature events including the Fax Machine Toss, Pin the Blame on the Bosses and a piñata bashing.

Laid-off computer programmer Nick Goddard is behind the event.

The 26-year-old says participants must prove they lost a job to compete. Bars and restaurants have donated prizes.

Tompkins Square was the site of labor riots in the 19th Century and in the 1980s was overrun with homeless encampments.

Today, it sits in a gentrified neighborhood and has largely shed its edgy past.
