Gowanus Expressway Pileup Backs Up Traffic All the Way to Staten Island

Four people have been taken to the hospital and cars were backed up all the way to Staten Island during Wednesday morning rush hour after a multiple-car pileup on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn.

Traffic was at a near-standstill after the crash about 4:30 a.m. near the Third Avenue exit. Hours later, the lanes were cleared but there were residual delays.

All the victims taken to the hospital suffered non-critical injuries.

Inbound high-occupancy-vehicle lanes were completely closed and delays stretched over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
