A middle school student was stabbed while walking to school in Westchester County Wednesday morning, police said.
The 14-year-old boy was stabbed in the abdomen by another student during a fight near Isaac E. Young Middle School on Centre Street in New Rochelle, police said.
He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where authorities said he was being treated for minor injuries to his abdomen.
Shaketta Johnson was dropping her child off at school when she saw the 14-year-old hunched over. She and crossing guard Veronica Brown rushed over to help as the child fell down.
Brown radioed for police, as Johnson aided the child.
"We lifted up his shirt and saw that he had a stab wound," Johnson said.
She added that it was "a nasty wound."

The other student, a 13-year-old boy, was taken into custody at the scene and will be charged as a juvenile, police said. He was released into his mother's custody Wednesday.
Both students are eighth graders at the school, the principal told NBC 4 New York.
Parents of Isaac E. Young students have been notified of the stabbing and were allowed to take their children home Wednesday.
One dad, Derek Dunston, went to check on his son after hearing about the stabbing.
"I'm a single dad," Dunston said. "My son means the world to me and I just wanted to know if he was all right."
The school was placed on lockdown after the stabbing.
