Woman Walking on FDR Drive Hit, Killed by Car: Officials

A woman was hit and killed by a car on the FDR Drive late Wednesday, an accident that sparked a chain-reaction crash, authorities say.

Part of FDR Drive was shut down Wednesday night after the woman was hit by a car.

The woman, later identified as 69-year-old Diana Singh, was hit while she was in the northbound lanes of the highway near East 96th Street at about 9:45 p.m, according to authorities. After Singh was hit, a multivehicle collision followed, police said.

The 69-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital, where she died. The driver of a 2008 Acura that hit the woman stayed at the scene and hasn't been charged. It wasn't clear what the woman was doing on the highway.

The roadway around the site was temporarily shut down, according to officials.
